Is this Mitch Miller's wife???

Sim

Not sure, but they sound alike. Mitch was great during his jazz clarinet days. nt, posted on September 15, 2021 at 11:20:23

I don't remember Mrs. Miller.

But I do remember a MISS Miller who was a regular studio audience member on 1960s late night network talk shows in New York (Steve Allen, Jack Paar, maybe early Johnny Carson). She usually finagled herself on camera somehow, thereby earning the stock $320 guest appearance fee.

And, in order to justify the expenditure, they let her sing occasionally.

She was something of a sensation.

He was an oboe player, I think. nt, posted on September 15, 2021 at 13:52:37

Oboeing MM immortalized with mustachioed Bird by DSM.

The bell on Bird's horn here looks more than a bit phallic.

We have a piano player in Anchorage, whose early band was so bad, , posted on September 15, 2021 at 19:09:07

that is it was good. He is Mister Whitekeys, and his band was the Oosik Music Company. They would occasionally call themselves the Jane Mansfield Memorial Jug Band.

He is actually a good boogie woogie player, but he is best known for his comedy music and skits.

One of his comedy tunes was "Also Sprach Zarathustra" with a tremendous introduction played with a kazoo and a snare drum. Boy, that was tremendously bad.

I always thought Mrs. Miller was trying to do the same thing for comedy entertainment.

I wasn't sure if I remembered her, then I clicked on the YouTube thoughtfully provided. Yup, that's her. The kind of voice one hopes to forget, but it sticks in the memory like a bad dream

I am glad the world holds people who enjoy such variety, but strangely enough, I really don't feel any loss by not having that artist in my humble collection.

Would a record store file the record under female vocalists, variety, or comedy?

For comedy, I go for an old spoken word comedian, Lord Buckley. before mrs. miller . But he spoke in the hipster colloquialisms of the time, so might not transfer well. Gods own drunk is quite a recitation, as is one about driving the car.

I remember seeing her on American Bandstand., posted on September 16, 2021 at 06:11:41

I was a kid and considered her a joke. Doubt my opinion has changed.

Obviously even as a kid you had what it takes to "know".

Ya don't loose that.

A true blast from the past. I was inspired by this YT interview of Rick Nielsen on Gibson TV. Rick tells great stories from the good old days when you could buy a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop for 75 bucks.

That $75 (I used 1965 as a base as that was about when Mrs. Miller sufaced) would be about $650 today; ..., posted on September 17, 2021 at 09:24:58

...note that I have no idea what one of the 1955 Gibson Les Paul Goldtops would sell for now but I suspect a lot more than $650.
