Found this vinyl today at an estate sale. The original film cast, from 1930. Remarkably clear. Lotte Lenya and these songs have not lost their punch. For those of you who know the libretto, you're aware of how raw and incompromising it can be.

That looks fascinating. I have other versions, but not that one. Here in New Orleans we are still recovering from Hurricane Ida, so I will pass along a version of "Oh Heavenly Salvation" from Mahagonny recorded by my friend Mark Bingham for Hal Willmer's LOST IN THE STARS (The Music of Kurt Weil) compilation featuring the wonderful voices of Aaron Neville and Johnny Adams. With the prevalence of serious storms all over (climatic and otherwise) the song is as pertinent as ever:

Actually, a fitting tribute to the original.

my collection has no such depth.

I do find slight comfort that I have learned enough about playback from hanging here, that if I were to come across such record, I wouldn't instal;y destroy it with an incomparable needle shape.
