This pitchfork review is pretty accurate.....but except for the odd song (the opener "This is my latest record project" is complete drivel, I really enjoyed listening to it, as least the first time through.

I have been buying all of his releases as they have come out, and IMHO they mostly hold up pretty well. For me the one exception is "Versatile", where I don't think Van's voice really holds up to the material, even though there was a lot of critical acclaim. Three Chords and the Truth, the Prophet Speaks, You're Driving Me Crazy - like them all.

Yes, I am a big Van Morrison fan, although I have never wanted to catch him live, afraid that he would destroy the Platonic ideal I have of his music and the space it inhabits for me personally by acting like a schmuck. The closest I have come is wishing that I had been in person for "Love In San Francisco", which I hope one day will be issued on LP.

I have just about everything else he has ever done as a single artist on LP.

Though I have 8 LPs of his prior to 1979. He can be a schmuck and I'm keeping his records. I actually thought for a minute about dumping them but Andrew Jackson's a much bigger schmuck and it's not like I'm burning $20 bills.

I enjoy his albums more today than when they were released.

this one is just too much: 3 records and, according to this reviews and others, a fair number of annoying/mediocre songs mixed in with the great ones. I'm not getting this album as I simply wouldn't have the patience to wade through it, especially as I have any number of truly classic Van records that I can put on if I'm in the mood for him. Thanks for posting the link.

I like this new release. Yes, some songs are a bit lacking lyrically but the music is wonderful. At $45 for 3 complete lps, packaging that puts every other artists to shame and A++++ engineering, what is not to like?

I was surprised by the high quality of the sound, and how well the music flows.

I read some terrible reviews for Van Morrisons latest record project. I went over to Youtube, and sampled many of the songs anyway. I thought the reviewer must have heard a different record than I did.
I immediatly bought a copy. It is Van Morrisons typical eclectic style. Jazz, blues, big band, the whole gamut. Musically superb. Ok, so like the reviewer, I didn't agree with some of the right leaning sentments in the lyrics. He was obviously pissed that covid, mask mandates had put a crimp in his earnings. I get that. Yes, some of the "Moon in June",lyrics were trite. But the musicianship was first rate, and Morrisons voice had all the energy, expressiveness and emotion that makes him so great to listen to. Some songs had tons of swing and jump,
some with touching sentiment, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.
I will keep an eye out for volume 2.

Great band, he's in good voice, a solid set of songs. Some are great, some are good, some not so, but then that's been the case with much of his output since the 80s. He's prolific, and like Prince, that means you get what you get - especially when it's two CDs/three LPs worth at once (with a promise of Vol 2.).

The poor reviews I've read focus mainly on the lyrics. Seems the reviewers don't agree with what he has to say in a small number of the songs, so the record has to be shite, despite great band, good voice, etc.
