First listen in 30 years and I still regard it as the best orchestral recordings of all time. Back then I was surrounded by orchestral instruments every Wednesday night and in frequent concerts, my system may have been marginally better, a great meal is seldom as good on a return trip, but this time it is. The Moscow Philharmonic was as good as any at the time; Lawrence Leighton Smith and Dimitri Kitayenko are brilliant. Smith, hardly a household name, shows a mastery of the Tschaikowsky 5, in dynamic shadings and tempo, as good or better than Ormandy on his vaunted Columbia outing. Oh, and there's the seldom heard Khovanshchina Prelude by Mussorgsky, a rare treat. 3 LPs Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka Russian And Ludmilla, Overture Conductor - Lawrence Leighton-Smith 5:05 -Peter Ilyich Tchaikowsky* Symphony No. 5 In E Minor (Op. 64) Conductor - Lawrence Leighton-Smith 1-2 - I.
