I'm slightly bummed but perhaps I should have been wiser. I have the original London (Albert Wolff, Paris Conservatoire, 1958 or so) in tolerable condition and I've always wanted to upgrade this record. It's getting pricey especially if you order from overseas. You can also find it in various London STS versions and on Eloquence cd. The Speakers Corner is now OOP and they have no plans to resurrect it. (Found it on Acoustic Sounds.) Now I know why. It's nothing special. It sounds like warmed over FM digital and for a new record surface noise to boot. That beat up London is world's better in warmth, air, and dynamics. Getting very cynical about these reissues.

For the surface noise, might be worth a try to do an ultrasonic cleaning.

I found that even new, previously unplayed LPs often have surface noise that US cleaning completely eliminates.

Almost like a new playback medium how quiet they are now.

Some of the SC are quite good, some mediocre. If I were you, I'd try for a London in NM condition on discogs.

I have had similar reactions to nearly all reissues but especially those from companies with audiophile pretensions. I nearly always prefer the sound of an original (or a much earlier reissue). Of course, if you don't have an early pressing to compare to the reissue, you might really like the new pressing but then you don't know what you're missing.

Yes, bought their first batch of Decca SXL reissues years ago...-. They all got rave reviews ...-. To make it short ...-. Some time ago I did not sell them, I put them into the trash box ...- all ...- one of my better „updates" ...-

Their stuff is good for nothing

Kind Regards
