I have been trying to reach Thom Mackris from Galibier Design, I hope he's OK...... I was going to try the latest Galibier motor controller for my Teres/Redpoint hybrid, but I have not been able to reach him.

I was checking if there was an outboard motor controller similar to the Galibier, which could be used with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch flat belt, and could be placed on a flat surface beside the turntable base, similar to the Teres/Redpoint/Galibier..... (There are some Japanese/Chinese units on eBay, but only use "string" or thin round belts to drive the platter.) Suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not current on this but DO have a question?

Why NOT an O-Ring style belt?* They can be had in a huge variety of materials from Viton or Silicon all the way to Kalrez, which is Exceptionally chemical resistant...and $$$

Is vibration transmission an issue? Or a slight 'stretch' followed by contraction causing speed variation?

With a slight 'groove' I can see no reason for the belt to 'walk', either.
Too much is never enough

I'm using a light machine belt, similar to what's found on office machines..... (It was custom made for me by a belt manufacturer.) They're a lot more durable than classic turntable belts, and I think they provide better sound. (I have several of these belts, the one I've been using for almost 10 years still looks no different from the unused ones.)

The thin rubber flat belt has a "cloth" backing, so it won't stretch, I find belts that stretch tend to have W&F issues with heavier platters like the Redpoint or Galibier.

Have you looked at SOTA's Eclipse Series components. They now produce a 3-phase synchronous motor with tachometer speed control. I have a prototype of the system on my SOTA Millennia Vacuum Turntable and it works beautifully. It maintains perfect speed at 33.333-RPM and 45.000-RPM. It's also capable of 78-RPM. Check out the link below:

I guess it is sort-of relevant to this discussion, but I've been using the Teres Verus outboard idler pod and controller on my NA Hyperspace. After more than a decade I continue to be amazed at the quality it provides. But if/when I can't get service or spares where else can one look? It is a very small world.

This could work..... It's somewhat complicated and might need a custom motor housing assembly for my particular setup..... (The "stock" motor housing assembly may not be large enough.)

I will look into it. Thank you much.

I was thinking of the "idler" option several years ago..... The only issue is that my particular platter's outer surface may have too much "variance," I think it would likely have issues with flutter with this particular application.....

There are a lot of motor pods out there in google land. Expressimo Audio looks like they could make you one out of a couple different materials. And then SOTA is really good a customizing your pod to fit their motor. The real trick is finding a pod that's heavy enough so the pod doesn't shake on startup. My SOTA pod shook on startup and had to go to the very heavy VPI Aries pod to solve that problem. Very happy now.

I contacted Expressimo Audio..... See what happens..... I kind of expect the items offered to be out of my price range..... (The turntable system goes for over 40 grand.)
