It's a 1977 reissue and wow. Just... wow.
The music is stunning and so are the sonics.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

There was quite a French blues market.
And they pressed some great blues - some that was a little obscure elsewhere.

I'm looking for a better copy of this - The first side is just about as perfect as a perfect blues album could be. But mine is heavily played and the sleeve is disintegrating.

but it's back-ordered which means fergit it.
There was a Classic copy on Discogs for $60 but I didn't move fast enough.

Listening to the MOFI annadisc200 release (MSFL 1-201). Really excellent all around. I also pulled out the Chess Box (CH6-80002). This is going to take a while.

I have the Classic reissue that I bought a number of years ago. It has a 2001 date. I can't remember when I bought it. I'll have to take a listen tomorrow.
Two of my favorite Muddy Waters records and "Hard Again" on Blue Sky the label and "Fathers and Sons" on Chess.
"Bus Driver" on "Hard Again" is particularly good in my estimation.

Yeah not likely as good a 'recording' as 'yours' Muddy's recordings were done on Early Gear in sketchy conditions.. there's no being too smug re recording qualities :-) That said mine was Free and is likely 90 +% of yours. Plus I've been listening to it.. for years :-)

Never heard a pressing of that that wasn't stellar... it's a FANTASTIC recording..., posted on January 11, 2021 at 22:56:21

so good It's one of maybe six MFSL gold CDs I own.

I have little use for MFSL recordings generally (LP or CD), but FOLK SINGER transcends media.

Have an original Chess LP pressing too.

ENJOY!!

I'm pretty sure he cut the Analog Productions version, too, but me, I'd rather have the Classic.
However, the dynamics on the French Chess are incredible.
My local record store only had the DOL reissue of Folk Singer, didn't have Hard Again (but I got a copy in the mail yesterday), might have Fathers and Sons.

have is the Mobile Fidelity gold CD I purchased in Taiwan around 1997. I hope one of the LP issues can beat the CD, which is fantastic.

Let me know if the photos appear upside down.

However if I stand on my head to look at it, it's upside down.
I gave Folk Singer another spin last night, this time on the speakers and man oh man... the detail and dynamics are incredible consider how long ago the record was recorded.

I settled on the 1987 Chess remaster. Two archive posts said the Chess remaster was good, but the original 1964 Chess was better. Cannot afford that of course.

Does your label look like this.

I heard many (lots of two LP sets?) years ago and they sound great.

Anyone pressing Folk Singer on LP would have to fuck-up real good to make it sound bad.

Great pressings.
