Hi fellow inmates

A friend of mine sent me this picture , I told him to make the alignment jig flat on the platter before doing his alignment , I told him his setup will be way off ( overhang , pivot to spindle distance I reckon ) or is it ok to do the setup we're in the position of the jig is not flat on the platter . Please clear this up for me .

Thanks in advance & stay safe ,

Mondial

Completely flat on the platter and snug.

....flat and so on.

But at the end of the day, IMHO, microscopic neurosis of cartridge alignment will just make you go insane.

Sure, you can present graphs and charts all day long showing the distortion of various grove geometry errors, but at the end of the day the stylus in the groove has so much inherent distortion....but still sounds better than a cold disc (CD) or even some hi-res digital.

YMMV....that's just my opinion but I know I'm an idiot; no one needs to tell me that...

well you're an awfully wise and experienced idiot, posted on September 28, 2020 at 07:40:53

haven't seen you around here much, but it sounds good to me because every setup is only as good as the mechanic's hands & tools, and what he does with them.

And there's nothing better than a good vinyl setup although others will disagree. That's fine as long as happiness rules the nighttime hours.
