"Like Technics turntables of old, the SL-1500C has big '33.3' and '45' rpm speed-selection buttons
- and, like Technics turntables of old, pressing them at the same time delivers 78rpm performance."

Is it true?

it must be, it's on the internet

my Technics didn't do that when I accidentally pressed both a few times

maybe it has to be done with intention? once more with feeling?

with regards,

You had to modify the old Technics SL-12xx to get 78 RPM., posted on July 30, 2020 at 14:11:02

But if you did, you pushed both buttons, etc.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

I managed and I would really hate to think that in those five years the 78's I wanted to
listen to could have BEEN played on it instead of the versions transferred to 33.33 LP
we ended up listening to.

And I used to sweet talk that 1200!

Do want 78 capability on my next TT.

looked through that PDF manual ... there's no page 19

it appears to skip from 18 > 20 ???

There sure is a age 19!

you're sure right!

I was 'zoomed in' and since the default display = side by side pages it skipped ... doh!

what's odd is that I've pressed both buttons a few times accidentally and didn't notice increased platter speed ... and obviously didn't read the manual thoroughly enough

thanks BCR!

If you look at the 33 and 45 switches there is a 78 marked in-between them!

It's not stock on older Technics, but KABUSA makes the modification for 78rpm., posted on July 30, 2020 at 19:05:47

Doing what ghost says on the KAB modded tables will give you 78rpm.

When you press both 33 + 45. Maybe the older ones did, too?

just to clarify, I did look at an image of the MK2 model, no lettering to indicate pressing both 33/45 buttons would give you 78rpm.

Further investigation of the various iterations, the 78 speed option didn't appear until the MK4 version, and there, it WAS a separate button just for 78 at the far right so 3 buttons, one for each speed. It was the MK5 that pressing both 33/45 buttons got you 78 and thus how the table was designed from then on.

So while it didn't initially have 78, it did get it the the 4th iteration, on.

Yes, my 1200G does specify hitting the 45 and 33 at the same time gives 78. I don't have any 78s any more but it does work. Kind of clever.

I got a chuckle also when I added 45 and 33. Do the math.

The older Technics tables(non 1200G etc.) with buttons could not give you 78rpm, posted on August 1, 2020 at 11:21:43

If you wanted to get 78rpm on an older Technics table, the internet has the procedure developed back in 1984.

Thanks. I do understand that the 1200G and 1500C have that feature., posted on August 7, 2020 at 11:55:36

I just wanted to make sure people understood that the older Technics tables with buttons(1200MKII, 1300MKII, 1500MKII, 1600MKII, 1700MKII, etc.) could not provide 78rpm.
