But you can never have enough Bruckner.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

This performance is available as a video at digitalconcerthall.com, the Berlin Philharmonic site. Normally this is a pay site, but this performance and some others are currently available for free. The Bruckner, probably for today (Tuesday) and tomorrow.

Here's a list of free concerts. Scroll down for the Bruckner.

Yes, couldn't resist - this is my treat for working my tail off over the past 6 months.

I bought the new Pathetique LP from the BPO site a few months ago - the BPO did an awesome job of getting it to my CA address, and it is a VERY high quality production. The Pathetique is clearly digital - I am looking forward to hearing the BPO in a pure analog setting.

If I were still spinning vinyl, I'd go for Wand's 1st Bruckner box set on Harmonia Mundi, posted on June 3, 2020 at 15:08:04
I really enjoyed the 4th and 8th, (the latter not quite as "fervent" as the Lubeck live), and wish I'd not passed on the entire box set, discovered in a record store in San Diego near the stadium, but family was honking horn in parking lot.

Okay, because of all this Bruckner talk, for $1.99 I broke down and picked, posted on June 4, 2020 at 19:03:32

up a World Record Club Bruckner #9 with Schuricht conducting. Unfortunately, I cannot play It until July when I return to Washington State. It is real dirty, but the grooves look very deep and distinct. I'm hoping the sound will be good after cleaning. Of course, I may not like the sound. :)

This was my first trip to a Goodwill , since the stay-at-home order in mid-March.

Haven't heard it myself, but from what I've read, you could have done much worse! [nt] ;-), posted on June 5, 2020 at 14:31:11

Schuricht's Bruckner 9 is a great one, he has the intrinsic solemnity like Furtwangler but does not go too far for it. Performance is very good and the sound is excellent.

If you get a chance to pick up Mehta's Bruckner 9, it will be quite interesting to hear the contrast between his approach and the 2 above. Scarcely any attempt to reach solemnity could be found but the music remained so beautiful.

Yeah, I have read some good comments about World Record Club pressings. nt, posted on June 5, 2020 at 18:13:46
