Clean-a-Palooza! First the kitchen floor, then the mail arrived

Now playing, the Telarc Poulenc Gloria and Organ Concerto. The seller cleans with an ultrasonic and Oh MY, is it quiet. Sure like not having to go through my manual 2 step wet clean at least on one disc.

Got the Solti Beethoven on old MoFi.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

Just bought some 50 year old jazz records that the seller had cleaned ultrasonically. They look VG but play VG++. I am definitely going to look further into acquiring an ultrasonic cleaner (probably the Kirmuss).

RE: Telarc didn't stop at big bass drums and field cannons, oh no. Fans of ADS L1530 check it out, posted on May 26, 2020 at 16:56:48
The pedal tones from the Aeolian-Skinner organ at the Cathedral of Saint Philip in Atlanta are simply amazing. And my 4 Pi's have very little output below 60 Hz.

Their speakers are ADS Model 1530 bi-amplified with an ADS C2000 crossover from Threshold Model 4000 Amplifiers, for those scoring at home.

"The Stereo Review's Stereo Buyers Guide 1983 edition has the following description of the ADC L1530 speaker:

Acoustic suspension 3-way floor standing professional monitor speaker system with 2 10" high-compliance Stifflite woofers in separate chambers, 2" soft-dome midrange, 1" samarium-cobalt soft-dome tweeter. Features single switch biamplifier conversion, tweeter level switch, tweeter, midrange protection fuses; mirror symmetrical midrange/hifrequency baffles for minimum diffraction; walnut veneer finish with radius-edged solid walnut corner inserts, removable black cloth grille. Frequency response 25-20,000 Hz +\- 3dB crossovers 500 and 4k Hz; sensitivity 95 dB SPL/W/m; power rating 150 W nominal, 300 W peak program, impedajnce 6 ohms; 50/5/8" H X 23-11/4"W X 12-1/8"D..........$1250"

I can vouch for ADS speakers, posted on May 27, 2020 at 09:15:48

Mine are the bit older L810 bookshelves, series 1 models and they very good, and deep/taught bass for their size, ala 2, 8" woofers in a similar configuration.

Fantastic speakers all their own.

Nice! I was given nine a couple of years ago by a friend and replaced some vintage early 70's Sansui speakers and boy, whadda difference it made. :-)

They are now powered by a modest looking NAD receiver, the 7240PE receiver from '87-92 and unlike my previous Sherwood receiver from the mid 90's have bite and grunt and woke up those ADS speakers quite nicely.

i self educated myself from the public library with Stravinsky's Petrushka by Pierre Boulez on Columbia. that turns out to be my favorite ballet and Pierre is a Stravinsky expert. later, i got the three ballets-Firebird, Rite, and Petrushka as an LP set, the Petrushka is the very same performance as the one i cut my teeth on.

all three are quintessential performances if not the last word in recording quality BUT, more than that, the performance itself is the true arbiter of why we buy decent equipment. and this is not to denigrate the Robert Shaw performance on Telarc. the discogs data reveals lots about why that version is so well respected. i wouldl't be without this one either.

I played a minor role in the two day recording process. :)

It was cool to meet luminaries like Jack Renner, Bob Woods and Dr. Stockham who was on site for the earliest Soundstream recordings as advisor.

The A/C was shut down so it was really hot in the hall. You'd see Shaw walking around with a towel around his neck. He would review many of the takes downstairs immediately following and critique them with key performers (I was allowed to join them). I remember one such interaction between he and the clarinet player over the short solo in the Polovstian Dances piece. Shaw made some suggestions and they did it again. The clarinetist nailed the second take!

Jealous about that Bartok RCA album! I have it on a Victrola release - what great playing and great sound!

I still dream of finding an unopened original pressing of that, and the band doing Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra (another I have on a Victrola rerelease only).

One day....

Do try Sravinsky's own. Big moments pack a wallop but chirping still audible.audible , posted on June 4, 2020 at 11:43:06
May be multi mic'ing but Stravinsky draws a very delicate, colorful sound with winds to the fore as opposed to modern drum and bugle corps renditions.
