This is my current toy and refurbishing project. (Kenwood KD-500 TT, JVC UA07045 arm and vintage Livewire Litz phono leads) Some test indicates that most of what I don't like about the sound comes from the old Livewire leads.(Even so,I'm thinking this setup won't be replacing my Sony PS-X-555 ES linear tracking table.) However, I would appreciate any recommendations regarding new phono leads with the standard 5-pin DIN connector. Regards !!

There's definitely something wrong if you prefer the Sony. You don't mention the nail attached, could be a bad case of lack of synergy.

I have as one of my many tables a KD500/Grace G707 combo that just didn't work with two carts that should have been the cart de rigueur at the time. Initially I was enjoying my wood body Grado on the table, sounded awesome until the maidinator took it out with her mighty dust rag.

This led me to installing my favorite cart used on my Thorens, a NOS Pickering XV15 1200E/D1200, something wasn't right. I tried my XV15 625E, same issue with sibilance on the same albums. This didn't make sense as the Pickerings should have been a great match on paper, and I would have thought one most likely sold with the deck back in the day.

So unless I replaced my Grado my search was on for the perfect cart. I tried my Grado Green/8MZ V, sounded fine but not in the same ballpark as the Platinum. Was about to pull the trigger on another wood body when I came across a NOS Grace-F8L'10. About the same price as the Platinum so I was caught in a conundrum. I decided on the Grace, and what a fortuitous decision that was, the Grace/Grace combo was the shit, I no longer lament the loss of the Platinum as it led me to vinyl nirvana.

I've always been a big believer in synergy between components, but had never been slapped in the face so hard by it lol.

I have a Victor UA 7045 arm and like how it performs including the fly VTA. It is worth changing out the tonearm cable from the headshell insert to DIN plug. I eliminated my DIN plug entirely and had it wired with RCAs for direct connection to my phono input.

I am auditioning both machines with my Ortofon Quartet Bronze, an Ortofon wood head shell and a Herbies mat. The Sony has damping under the platter and much improved leads that are silver soldered in place. The Sony is a total hand-off operation that I would totally trust with any cartridge on the planet. I have respect for both units. The sonics is a work in progress and "I will callz it like I hearz it.

... I externalized the power transformer. Fast forward, I did the same thing to my current Sony 555.

But that's just my point, maybe the cartridge in question is just that much better of a match with the Sony. It's what makes TT so much fun and at the same time so exasperating, even using the same cart it's apples to oranges lol.
