Already emailed Terry DeWick, no response, he must be very busy.
Who else do you recommend to update my 299B?

I always intended to take my McIntosh MR-78 tuner to him for a tune-up "someday", but that ship has sailed.

A lot of Asylum people have given high marks to Asylum Inmate Mike Samra for the type of work you're looking to have done, but I don't know if he's accepting new work either. His contact link is below.

Good luck with it.

According to your link, it belongs to someone named Craig Ostby.

I knew had Terry's site bookmarked, but couldn't find it to include in my reply to Dmitry. I stuck it in "Tuners" and I was looking in "Repairs".

I'm just glad my MR-78 isn't in bad need of an alignment. I intended to have Terry do a touch-up on the alignment for a couple of reasons. First, because his reputation as the go-to tuner guy was well known. And second, because he was only about a three-hour drive from me, not exactly close, but it would have meant I wouldn't have had to ship the tuner.

Oh well.

Some years ago I posted that I always wanted a Neuance support for my turntable, but that they had gone out of business.

Ken Lyon, the guy who made the light but rigid (think surfboard) support read my lament, and had just enough materials left to make his last two. He offered one to me, and one to another Vinyl Asylum inmate, and we grabbed them.

Now if I could only get a second chance on that $800 Marantz 8B, Western Electric horns, NOS 2A3s, Scott tuner, etc, none of which I had the money for when they were offered to me years ago.

I made a mistake. It's another technician's website, who is stationed on the Klipsch forum. I have not worked with him either, unlike Mr.DeWick, whose reputation is legendary.

They've all done great work for me on tube gear.

Thanks, Bill. I didn't know Audio Classics repaired non-McIntosh equipment. I have read they charged higher than average for their work!
Thank you for the suggestions!

Bill, is Blackie back in NYC? Some time ago, there were indications he'd relocated to LA.

I definitely miss the East Village shows.

His web site says he is, and it's at a different address from when I saw him last, which was some time ago.

I think they work on most tube gear at least, but I could be wrong. They're not cheap, but when I had Richard Modaferri modify an MR-71, I thought the charge was pretty reasonable. I should have kept that one. It sounded like a 10-B, was near perfect cosmetically, and the RF section was pretty close to the 77 & 78.

I have fairly extensive positive experience with Audio Classics In Vestal NY. Call them and talk with Ryan Kilpatrick their service manager about your needs and concerns. I've found them to be very competent and sensitive to my needs and concerns.
