IS THE PREAMP WORTH PUTTING ANY MONEY TO RESTORE IT TO ITS ORIGINAL SPECS.Or are there many other solid state preamps that can be purchased at the repair cost?
Thanks.

The most challenging issue regarding old preamps lies in the fact that controls and switches simply wear out. This creates a particular difficulty in solid state gear where factory parts are needed in order to fit the PCB configuration and a thin chassis. If you like the sound of the Crown, it's worth restoring. Just be sure before you start the project that all required replacement parts will be available.

Thanks: The SL2 was a minimal design with a terrific sound stage and functional tone controls. Crown as it exists now has long abandoned its association with its analogue products. Have not the eyes for match and substitute but will look for some one who can.Truly like the pre better than the one I own at 8x the price.
Cheers,

doubt the restore would be expensive, not a lot inside them compared to many others.

Thank you. Will contact Crown for a start. I truly like the preamp for its versatility and simplicity. Will sear ch VINTAGE to find a restorer.
Cheers

Not on a Crown. Switches and controls were very high quality and this is a minimalist design, so there aren't that many. A good cleaning should be all that is necessary. If it were mine, I'd try to bring it up to snuff. Might need some new capacitors, but I'd start with a clean.
