I've brought a 1962 GE console back to life for a friend of mine. Everything seems to be working fine but yet the sound quality is lacking. Someone in our town is selling all of the inner workings to a pair of Klipsch Heresey's. Wondering how it would sound if I swapped out the speaker networks. Any thoughts?

Take the amp output from the console and connect to a pair of speakers that you have - if that improves the sound then proceed with the Klipsch refurbishment-
However the circuits may not deliver wonderful sound - so test first...
Happy Listening

Many such units need modification to the amp etc. The engineers card not for sound quality, they made it sound how they like it.

If you can get the print I can tell you the best way to modify it, and even if you do change out the speakers you will likely need it.

There are a bunch of Magnavoxes and RCAs out there that sound much better than they ever did because of the proper modifications.

It may in fact sound better, but I think you should concentrate on the electronics. It wouldn't hurt to tune up the amp/pre with new capacitors and resistors and maybe even tubes. Not sure of what your unit is exactly. I have an amp from an old early 60's GE console that was a record changer only. It is a SET with 2 6BQ5, 1-6eu7, and 1-5Y3GT. It is a good sounding amp and powers AR speakers nicely in my bedroom.

Many consoles I have seen have open back, or nearly open back speakers. So I doubt the Heresy bass driver would be happy with that, you'd have to look at the TS parameters. Until the last release I think all Heresy's were sealed, not even ported.

and refill it with Current gear.. ALL of it.
Consoles were mostly Cheap gear in a wife friendly piece of Furniture. The "box' was everything .
Damned near anything that can be neatly fitted, of semi current design will sound Far better.
