Cleaning controls and checking offset on a HK430 that I gave to my brother quite a few years ago and had recently gotten scratchy. Manual says DC idle is 25mV across the .47Ohm emitter resistors which equates to 53mA. When checking, both channels were at 12mV(25mA) with the variable resistors roughly in the middle of their range. I was able to achieve the manuals spec of 25mV but had to go near the end of the pots range in both cases.

This made me wonder if the manual was wrong and the desired setting is actually 25mA (=12mV) which is where they were at. Looking at the HK330 which is virtually the same circuit but has 20WRMS .5% distortion vs the 430's 25WRMS .3%distortion the dc idle setting is only 10mV's.

Am I being paranoid? The unit sounded great at the lower idle of 12mV/25mA so I'm thinking why mess with it and create more heat to get marginally less distortion?

Thanks, Gary
