I picked these up yesterday for $10 from a local thrift store. Didn't know anything about them, but I could tell from the weight and construction that they were quality speakers, so I grabbed them immediately. After some research, I discovered they were boutique speakers from a one-man operation in Ann Arbor back in the 60s/70s.

I haven't had a chance to listen to them beyond a simple test, but they sound extremely accurate and flat from what I can tell from a first impression.

Very interesting read; the whole page is about McIntosh, Lahti is near the bottom. )MT(, posted on June 4, 2020 at 16:38:05

I know them and owned a pair. In the early 60s I worked at McIntosh's hometown dealer in Binghamton, NY. We met Lahti through them and sold his speakers. At that time the woofer was mounted behind a shaped port. I think he used Utah drivers.

They sounded good and if the ones you have are in good condition you should enjoy them.

I should add that I knew Lahti when I was at the University of Michigan.

My father had a pair when I was a child; I remember he used them as rear speakers in our large living room with Dynaco A-25's as the front pair, and they were hooked up with a Dynaquad adapter. Before we got the A-25's the Lahti's must have been our main speakers, but that is before my memory. I do remember we had a Stromberg Carlson tube integrated, but my father, who always faith in technical progress replaced it with an Lafayette receiver.

I do like the sound - they remind me of studio monitors, very clean and accurate. Lots of midrange and understated bass. I find they sound pretty good when I throw them in together with my baby Advents.
