Before today I hadn't seen a decent piece of audio equipment in a garage sale or thrift shop in eons. But I had to go the the DMV this morning, and on the way home stopped at a Good Will store right at opening time. For $5 I picked up a Rotel RCD 250 in very good condition. It works and sounds great.

Great find. CD players and subwoofers seem to be the only things that I see lately. I do see tuners and cassette decks occasionally. My last finds were great cartages on OK turntables.

It sounds better than the Sony I was using, and it goes nicely with my Rotel RA-985BX integrated of about the same vintage.

I have a couple of Rotel CD players, an RCD 971 and an RCD 955AX. I'm not familiar with the 250. The RCD 955AX turned out to be fairly sensitive to interconnect capacitance, the 971 not so much. I found that with very short 12", low capacitance (27 pF) interconnects, the 955AX sounds exactly like the 971; but with 3' cables (80 pF) it takes on a bit of an edge to the sound.

Being an older model, you might want to check this out with your RCD 250.
