Please Help with my Paradigms

Distressed

I brought home a few weeks ago a Yamaha RX-v793 receiver (80 watts per channel) with Paradigm Studio 20s and the matching CC-450. I have a low pass connection (via a single RCA Monster cable) to a Velodyne 1015.

The Paradigms sounded so sharp, crisp, clear, and dynamic in the store. They have phenomenal imaging but the almost never sound very sharp and crystal at home. The room in which they are is 10' wide by 11' long with only three walls---it is an open room.

I understand that audio shops have ideally designed acoustically optimal rooms and I don't.

Is this Yamaha properly matched for my speakers ?

Do I have enough power ?

I bought the Yamaha as a floor model. It seems ok, but could this be my problem ?

What can I do to significantly improve the sound ?

Please help.

Thanks.

If the speakers are new out of the box, then you will have to keep playing them until they "break-in". It takes a while for speakers to sound their best. This will take several days, same goes for the receiver.

there is usually no problem with the demo equipment. I also have studio 20's and lcr450, and a 70watts/ch Harman Kardon receiver. The studio 20's play loud and clear even with my moderate powered receiver, so I don't think receiver is your problem. My experience with the studio 20's is that you have to be careful where you place them. They sound significantly different, especially in a small room, depending on where you place them. Since your room is quite small, (except the open end), I suggest you experiment with their placement. If that is not an option, then probably the only other "tweak" to improve sound is acoustic room treatment. You can probably find cheap DIY acoustic treatments in this forum. Hope that helps...
