I leave everything on, except my tuner, dac and preamp, which all have standy. Standby usually keeps the main circuits powered, while shutting down displays and tubes. Unless you are going to be away for 24+ hours, then power down everything. That is what I do.

louie3	Thanks folks. The light bulbs in mine have been replaced with LEDs, so burning out bulbs is no longer an issue. Sounds like "leave it on" is the way to go.

Turning SS equipment on and off is tougher on it than leaving it on, but lightning can do a heck of a lot more damage. If you are in an area with a lot of lightning you might consider unplugging it during storms. We are in a place with a lot of lightning. We have a half dozen ground rods and still have had damage through antennae but more through power line.

I leave everything off and un-plugged unless I am listening to it. Lightning and power surges. )MT(, posted on August 9, 2016 at 18:57:52

louie3	Yes, leaving it on sounds like a plan. It probably needs alignment, it loses the station when I turn it off...requires re-tuning when it comes back on.

I know the vpotential advantages but they are not worth it even in a tuner which doesn't even run hot. Add the corner safety related issues like lightening and power outages and its a stronger no. I leave my T109 on. Currently listening to BBC Proms with C275 balanced in out.

It seems that Radio 3 has improved SQ significantly, with much better sound staging and transparency.

With FM tuners sounding so good, who needs digital streaming, with all it's hassle in engaging stations and locating programmes?

I do not leave my 101 on unless I am listening. Drift between power -ones is probably a failing capacitor in the front RF section. The 101 at this point is 35+ years old and many of the electrolytics may have dried out. I had c50 fail on the power supply board and that caused the muting relay to buzz. It was an easy fix. If you send it off to Accutech for the alignment, have them check that cap and the caps in the RF section too. Then you'll be good to go for many more years.

openmind Audiophile Posts: 183 Location: Phoenix Joined: November 8, 2008	My T-100 failed many years ago and the repair guy said it was heat-related so if I had a T-100 I would keep it off. It should only take a few minutes for any solid-state tuner to reach thermal and electrical equilibrium.
