...in my AIM3A last night...clear, open, more focused on vocals. This wasn't slowly realized but more like immediate. My fiancee, who was in the room at the time I fired them up in my AIM3A for the first time, also remarked on the improved nature of the system. All we said was "Hey yeah! That's much better than the previous tubes."

Using Classe CDP .3 with Audio Magic Excalibur II's into the AUX input of the AIM3A.

Will let you know of the more indepth and critical impressions shortly. For now, we'll just enjoy what the Tungsram's did to the system. I'm impressed.

It is rumoured that Art Ferris is fond of the Tungsrams himself.
I liked their sound, as well. Hope they work well for a long time for you.

Hey Dude where did you get the Tungsram's. (nt), posted on March 28, 1999 at 17:52:47

The Tungsrams are being driven by Miles Davis' "Sketches of Spain" Sony re-mastered version right now. The trumpets sound a little too shrill and thin right now. I'm burning this thing in a little bit at the time. Will definitely let you know how it is in about a week's time.

I'll be getting some Phillips JAN 6922's soon and use them primarily as backups, but they may surprise me as well. They may not be certain other's cup of tea but perhaps my impressions will be different.

DAMN these Tungsrams opened up things quite a bit...staging is even more solid than what I remembered of the stock Sovteks.

I called Kevin last weekend for his recommendations to replace
the stock tubes in an Audio Prism Mantissa. He recommended
this tube. I appreciate your comments-please keep us posted.

... since you got my name right ;-) (It is "ph" as in Stefan).

I liked the Tungsrams. They were certainly better than the stock
Sovteks in most every regard, especially a lack of brightness. I would had kept them had they not gone noisy in short order.

I like the 7DJ8s better. The very best bass (in depth and articulation) from any 6922 variant I've heard. Relatively warm mids, highly improved intrumental tonality and microdynamic shadings were the better than even the Siemens NOS 6922 Germany Gold Pins, as was instrumental bloom; sense of venue improved over the Tungsrams which were no slouch in this area. SO far they have been in the pre for nearly two months. If they last six, I will be ecstatic.

The 7DJ8s are rumoured to last longer due to the lowered filament voltage in 6.3V parallel circuits. This means little to me, but thought I'd throw it into the mix. Hopefully one of our more technically inclined visitors can clue me in.

I too was recommended the Edicron 7dj8 by Stephen, and I have been very impessed. Though I have not listened to the Tungsram, I have had a number of NOS tubes in my Modulus (Amperex, Mullard, Sylvania, Siemens), and I like the Edicron the best. I will admit that all of the other tubes did some things differently, and for me perhaps better (esp. Siemens 6922 gold pins), but overall, the Edicron has been most enjoyable sound. And damn, are they are really quiet!
Thanks again for the recommendation Stephen.

Now heres a tube that is seldom mentioned in the states. Are you guys from Europe by any chance or just obscure tube shoppers?

The Edicron 7DJ8's remind me of the Siemens 60's(not 70's) gold pin 6922's. However I like the Siemens 60's gold pin 6DJ8's the best. Though all are becoming harder and harder to find with all of these 6922 based preamps hitting the market. ESPECIALLY WITH MANY USING 6 OR MORE TUBES!

I suppose it will be only a matter of time before companies like Tesla and Sventlana (maybe Sovtek) start producing good new production 6922's. However why should they as long as there are plenty of NOS's.....hmmm.....maybe because NOS....well the good ones are becoming harder and harder to source.

I agree with Stephan. In that the Tungsrams better the Sovteks but that many Amperex, Siemens and Edicron's better the Tungrams. Actually once you decide to spend the extra cash the it's almost as hard to listen to the Tungsrams as it is to the Sovteks. Hey, the Sovtek is durable and cheap though.

.....his prices are high. Hey, someone has to pay for all that testing equiptment and time spent. Kevin is very knowledgable.

Try the link below. As Ned is a great guy also. Though he sells his tubes cheap I tell you. Below is off of his web page and below this is his link.
