Question:

I've got a ton of 6SN7 tubes and zero 6922 tubes, which I need. Looking on line, I saw adapters that are supposed to make it so I can use the 6SN7 tube in place of the 6922 tube.

Does this work, or will it damage the preamp (Audio Research PH3SE)?

Thanks.

Don't do it!! The triodes are VERY different and the 6SN7 draws 2X the heater current. :>((

The affordable, safe, and decent sounding option is the Russian 6H23Π-EB (6n23p-ev). FYI the ElectroHarmonix (EH) 6922 is 6H23Π-EB.

In current production, JJ's E88CC and New Sensor's "reissue" Genelex are possibilities. However, quite a few units abuse the tubes and only the 6H23Π-EB is definitely tough enough to take the beating.

Thanks, Eli.

This kind of sucks since I've got probably 20 or so 6sn7 tubes.

Quality OS 6SN7s, even those lightly used, are worth some $. JMO, sell to buy. ;>)

Pretty amazing.

I used to own the MB-125s, which I really loved but sold about five years ago when I quit the speaker-based audiophile hobby. Since I've gotten back into about a year or so back, I've wanted to pick up another pair, but they seldom pop up for sale, or are priced higher than I'm willing to pay.

The MB-185s, through my current rig, are an incredible sounding amplifier. It soundstages and images a few levels up from my previous amps.

I'm at that honeymoon stage where I'm thinking selling all my excess gear wouldn't be a bad idea.

That's a thought, but I still have the headphone amps they were purchased for (Singlepower MPX3 and Supra) so I'll probably just hold onto them.
