It seems like the only thing saved from my childhood, 1966 or so, was a British Mullard 12AX7. It's been in my amplifier the last 15 years. Last I heard, it was selling for $1000 or so for NOS on eBay. Not quite sure if I believe it, but it transformed an ordinary Anthem AMP-1 and would cost about what the amplifier sold for new.

Don't understand why they can't make them like they use to. I guess it was 'rocket science' back then and still is!

I'm convinced there's tremendous difficulty now acquiring correctly processed materials for platings and other surface treatments. Then there's the aging of the machinery used to produce the elements and perform final alignment and assembly. I think there's less than a 50-50 chance any of these companies will still be in business in 20 years. If they are, quality and sonic performance will probably be much worse than current levels.

I think most of the price for vintage 12ax7 is the collector's price for a nos/nib tube. Price for used tubes are still high but not ridiculously high. Often times on the bay a seller would put a totally STOOPID buy it now price on a most mundane thing. Like 100.00 slide switches, etc. Probably these are money laundering schemes. So, don't buy stuff like that or the Russian mob (aka Trumps's cabinet) might come looking for you!

Taking a guess at the seller was useless. There is no guessing. It just is.

That seller, old guy radiola is nuckingfuts. or maybe a marketing genius? The statements in the ads are ridiculously over the top, and hugely exaggerated. And any unusual aspect of a tube that he stumbles across warrants a 10 fold increase in price, at least! Epray loves him because of the money he makes for them.
I feel sorry for the newbies that buy his stuff, as only a tube newbie would be suckered into the hype surrounding or infecting his adverts.

What a joke. "MADE WITH SQUARE 2 HOLE BAD BOY BLACK PLATES". Does that mean that the 1952 6SN7's I bought from Neville Keatly fifteen years ago with three holes are fakes?!?

Yes I did. One of the best purchases I've made. Thinking about the SP14 Preamp now.
But I got 3 pieces of Adcom in the closet which I could sell and get....not enough for those tubes listed. It was an attempt at humor. Doesn't work well online. But I keep trying. Slow learner

If OGR comes over here, he'll likely report you to the Tube Sellers Association, "equable" or not. Bwhahahahaha!

Perhaps he should just say he's gonna tell his Mommy. :)

It is ominous that the Tube sellers association acronym is TSA! Be prepared to be strip searched and groped!

Didn't make that connection. :) But it's safe to say that if this imaginary Tube Sellers Association would admit OGA as a member, it would have a similar reputation.

and then buy a bunch of shit you don't need. It is what keeps America from defaulting on its loans. If people quit spending their disposable income the finacial market would fall apart.

enough hobbies to dispose of several incomes. Once I disposed of some income to get a ScoutMaster TT. It looked a lot like my previous TT so I didn't tell my wife. The other TT was black. The new one was black.
But I forgot and, as was custom, I brought the credit card bill in for her about 20 days later.
"What's this $2300 charge for?", she said. Oooops. Fortunately my wife understands my audiophile needs......

My wife is the love of my life....my queen and best friend. We have been together 41 yrs. I try to keep life "interesting". Indeed that was one of my bigger shenanigans. I planned on telling her before the bill came due. But life happened and I forgot.
I ran the business and she handled all the $$$ and the bills. But I'm not usually reckless..........usually (-:
