Amperex 6L6?

A friend of mine is claiming to have a pair of Amperex 6L6s, made in England. I've seen lots of 6L6s, but never one with an Amperex label other than a couple of relabeled American tubes.

I'm suspecting Chinese fakes. Haven't seen them yet.

...were actually Russian 6P3. Giveaway is "flying saucer" getter holder, fat phenolic base and "made in England" as opposed to "made in Great Britain" Inexpensive and OK sounding IME but will have a very short life in any app that expects 6L6GC. Usually redplate ~ 18-20W.

I asked him to post some photos of them, but so far, he has not done so.

Last time I checked, there were still a few eBay sellers trying to pawn off the 6P3S as a 6L6GC equivalent. Even the 6P3S-E - a much superior tube - doesn't have that kind of dissipation.
