i have oodles of 10/vt-25s i have "collected" in the past year, and just recently got my tube tester. it is a superior tv-12. anyhow...i wanted to test all of my tubes, but there is no listing for the correct settings for the 10. there is, however, a listing for the 801 (which, correct me if i'm wrong, has the same characteristics other then the uprated max voltage on the 801). i decided to use those settings, and when i plugged in a 10...the filaments lit up like a light bulb. this is before i applied any voltage to the tube (and it was set on 7.5 volt like it should be). i took them right out, because it surprised me...but is that the way they should look? i know there are different types (materials) of filaments...but don't have experience with any other than ones that glow a medium orange. can i use the 801 settings? is this bright glow normal (and if so...looks nice!)?!

thanks,
ryan_

Ryan,

Most VT25s or 10s have thoriated tungsten filamments.
Yes they glow bright like a 211 or 845. There are some
10s which have a coated oxide filament which glows orange.
But the vast majority have those brightly glowing thoriated
tungsten filaments.

I was just as surprised when I first turned on my diy 10 amp (Taylor Globe 10). Never saw such a bright tube!.

Wait till you get it into an amp and hear it :-)
