What advantages does schottky diode have when used for DHT filament

 Schottky diodes have less self generated noise. They are good for rectification.

 In addition to Chip647's post, the specific advantage of Schottky diodes for low-voltage supplies specifically is their low forward voltage drop. They are thus more efficient.

That is not always useful, of course, depending on the available windings on the power transformer and the required filament voltage.

 Did you mean GA (Gallium Arsenide, or GaAs)? If not what are GE diodes?

 Can't the noise issues be taken care of with a very small bridge cap?

No takers for FREDs? Company I worked for made a line of them.......Fast and easy to fabricate in-fab and had both high yields and low cycle time thru the fab.......Thus not TOO expensive....
