I bought a few vintage Buss HKP fuse holders on eBay this week, and the seller included a "bonus" pack of five I've never seen. They have a transparent fuse cap, and they seem to be meant for use with some type of indicator fuse. Did Buss make fuses at one time with a neon bulb indicator built in?

Indeed they did, TK. Various configurations and colors... 5 extras would be enough to utilize in a design. I enjoy all that bygone STUFF.

"Various configurations and colors..."

That's a new one on me, never seen them. I guess the special fuses needed to light this up are no longer made?

Looking thru old catalogs I've seen cartridge fuses with little a indicator pin in the end. When the fuse is good, the pin is more-or-less flush with end surface of the fuse. When blown, the pin pops out the end like those built-in turkey temperature indicator things. I wonder if your holder is designed for this type of fuse. The pin would be visible in the end cap when extended. I've never seen a small fuse with a built in lamp and your holder doesn't seem to have a lamp built in...OTOH, I haven't seen everything.

Although a built in lamp of some sort would be cool, I can't see how that could be made to work for two reasons: 1. The lamp would have to bridge the fuse element so the lamp voltage would have to be reasonably close to the voltage appearing across an open fuse making fuses or holders be very specific to voltage in use. 2 . A lamp across the fuse necessarily allows a small current to flow thru a potentially faulty circuit. That situation somehow seems to partially negate the purpose of a fuse and might be unsafe under certain circumstances.

You could be right, it might be intended to just show the pin when a fuse blows. I was thinking maybe they had a fuse with a built in neon bulb for use on the mains. Haven't ever seen one though. Something tells me these are going to sit on my shelf a long time.
