I have a circa 1980 Pioneer 1011L. Built like a tank. I had put it away for years due to moving to CDs and my old cat's craving for magnetic tape. The lifters went out about 5 years ago. I got the service manual (on microfiche) from Pioneer and did some troubleshooting. I determined that it was the switching transistor that controlled the lifters. However, said transistor is deeply buried in the unit (as seen from the back), and I didn't feel like a major disassembly. Anybody have any experience fixing this problem? I would like to fix it before I sell, or more likely, give this beast away. I'm not offering it for sale on-line since the shipping would be far more than it's worth. If I can't fix it simply I will just give it to someone local.

the 1011L is really quite a nice deck and should sound darn good. |
