Haydn remains a favorite. Always inventive. Music ranges from charming to dramatic (and sometimes both). This morning's listening is shown in the these pictures. This is one really good way to enjoy Haydn.

A great acetate tape, but an unbelievable line in the program notes, posted on June 12, 2021 at 05:56:32

"NONESUCH tapes are direct one-to-one copies from the original masters."

If true, they must have had a forest of duplicating machines. Or sold darn few of the tapes (@$6.95 MSRP). Anybody know the details of this operation?

I don't. Would be interesting to know.

I doubt this was a normal speed duplication.

Sorta depends on what you believe "one-to-one"should mean. :-)

Have to say I remember this Haydn tape sounding better when I listened to it back in the day. Not surprising, given that it's a late-60s 4-track 7 1/2 ips acetate reel and most all my recent listening has been to 2-track 15 ips tapes.

I wondered how it would sound at 3 3/4ips. In fact, the imaging and detail are quite good. Noise is not audible to me. All in all, thoroughly enjoyable.

This is probably the best-sounding Haydn tape I've ever heard. I bought my copy at Radio Shack in the 1960s, and I have no connection with the seller.
