I have to fix it or get it fixed, one channel dose not play or record. I was thinking of swiching the positions of the preamp cards to see if that is where the problem is. I want to fix the problem on the cheap. I'll spend money if the machine proves viable. Any thoughts on how to fix?

I have looked for leaky caps and fried resistors. Have not found any yet. I also know that the diodes go. If I listen through geadphones, I can hear an extremely faint signal, so I think the heads are OK. Both for recording and playback.

I just got it working last night. I cleaned up dust inside and sprayed Caig Deoxit on the switches and pots. After a little bit of fiddling, the 2nd channel came to life. Great sounding machine.

Yup. I'm pairing mine with a professional type A DBX noise reduction system the dynamics is simply amazing at 7ips.

I am thinking about a DBX decoder as well.

Just got a Teac 180 Dolby unit modded severely by Fred at Emotive audio and playing BC encoded tapes on My Nagra sounds really spectacular!!!

man, nice deck, you should have looked into getting the G36 instead... :)

pure telefunken tube sound... supreme to just about anything out there, plus Tim De Paravicini has mods for it... :)

I found the A77 first. With a little cleaning, it's now in perfect working order. I am shocked at how good the tape transport is. I would have held out for a G36, but I found this one locally and inexpensively. I am already thinking about mods to the preamp and record boards.

Where can I find the mods list, should I ask the man himself.
I am lucky to have a 15ips 1/2 track Revox G36 with the original valves. The sound is Ok but after checking it over, I have realised this will be a long term expensive rebuild project as I imagine every dried out 40 year old capacitor will need replacing and I want to replace them with jensen paper/oil caps . I have heard Of a revox being modded to use 1/2 inch tape. Nice!
