Hi Rod,

Twice now in the past two days I attempted to reply to a comment within a post and received the 404 error message. See link below.

So far this has been limited to one post within VA.

Thanks

That's weird and is a 404 error. I need to know where you were and what you clicked on. It would seem that a form variable or a message is corrupted, but I can't tell you where as it's one of 10,000 in the 115 message dir.

Rod, the post is linked below.

I attempted to reply to: bjamz 11:27:27 05/01/17

But with that on any sub link below it I get the same error message. I could only reply by posting above that post.

Hope this is enough to find the problem.

It's probably been around for ages and only happens every 10,000 posts.

The Thread Display code is quite old and uses saved html versions of the posts and a lot of parsing to display the page. Since it works and it's fast, we never bothered to re-write it to use the database though it's on our list for the new responsive code stream.

Anyway, it's all the posts that are in the 115 message dir that have the problem because the original post, 1149993, caused a new 115 dir to be created. Unix doesn't like a million posts in one dir and we still save html versions of the posts even though the db handles most displays. I like the idea of a hard copy backup as well even though it's somewhat silly with slave/replication db servers that we have. Disk space is cheap.

I'll take a look in the morning, it's a fairly simple fix.

Right, I tried all four of his sub-posts and normal Reply window came up for each one.

Thanks Rod.
