I have a pair of North Creek Rhythm speakers that I immensely enjoy. I recently moved and now one speaker has no midrange only the tweeter working. The bottom binding posts are not working. Could moving the speaker cause something inside the crossover to come loose. I tried unscrewing the back panel but I can't get it off. Any thoughts?

Could be a loose connection inside... you can usually get one of the woofers out and inspect wiring that way.

Sometimes a dropped speaker can cause a magnet to shift, but in an MTM design like that the odds of BOTH midwoofs being damaged due to a move are unlikely. Could be something rattled loose.

The wiring from the bottom terminals will go to a low-pass filter portion of a/the crossover and from there to the two mid-woofs. Checking, or "ringing out" (measuring) wiring with a meter is the first step.

You can measure individual woofer coils to try and narrow things down further.

Cheers,
Presto

That back panel might be a real devil to remove. Take a look at this site that details the cabinet construction from George's DIY kit: http://attitube.com/loudspeakers/rhythm-classic-loudspeaker-kit/ You might get some help from the manuals that he provided with the kit if you do not already have them. You can download them from the link below.

Thanks. It's strange to me that after taking all the screws out of the rear I b does not budge at all.

If the panel is anything like the pics in the link, you might try putting some of the screws back part way in and pull on them to help pry it loose.

If any kind of paint or sealant was used though, it won't just "fall off".

You might even try "heating" the edges with a hair dryer to help loosen things.

Would be a shame to damage the wood actually trying to pry the panel out.

Looks like the drivers are sealed in with a sticky gasket. But removing a driver as another inmate mentioned is certainly another option.

Nice speakers! Hope things go well.

Cheers!

Can you take the driver off from the front?

Look inside and make sure the wires are connected to the driver. Both going at the same time????? Well, they could have used over sized crimp on connectors and they both fell off. I have seen that.

I can't really get great access to the crossover but it seems everything is connected. Any chance of getting go this repaired? Has anyone ever reached out to George and asked advice?

Update! Sent the woofers to Miller Sound. They were indeed damaged. Bill did an amazing job and a complete pleasure to chat with. Everything is back up and running. Bill did mention that ScanSpeak had the polarity marked backwards on the drivers. Wondering anyone else has ever experienced this with their stuff.
