I believe every product sold in the US has to have it's country of origin imprinted or labeled on it. The exception to that is if it's parts are from multiple countries and merely just assembled here, eg your American made car!

So "proprietary" could mean they are simply buying overseas parts and assembling them here.

They don't want to admit where their stuff is made.

I reviewed some Shengya monoblocks many years ago and Shengya is a big manufacturer who OEM's for other major brands. Fair enough. I went to one room at an Audio Show and and saw the Shngya monoblocks but the company from Germany had heir name on the front. I mentioned Shengya and they would not admit their amps were from China - I looked it up later - they are made by Shengya - they just put their names on the front.

This goes in many industries - I mean people are complaining the new Toyota Supra is a B&W Z4 because it sure seems that way.

But you're going to have a tough time getting away from China completely - so then it becomes a matter of degrees.

After all - even if you find a company that makes speaker in the USA and the woofers and tweeters come from Denmark or Japan and you can be certain all the parts in the speaker right down to the screws and wires are all not made in China - chances are the company bought their workers chairs or use computers or printers that were made in China. So whether one likes it or not there is a "fixed cost" associated to every single product the company makes and if ANY of the business administration stuff has any Chinese part anywhere then it's "Chinese" in part. Thus then all you are doing is arguing over a matter of degrees.

The CEO of the company - is he using an Apple of Samsung to make business calls? Chinese!

I always understand folks like yourself who want to buy at home but it just doesn't work anymore - it's all intertwined with a global community and while we can complain about free trade one of the mantras of it was that "Free Trade Stops Wars" and "we'll figure out the rest later"

Schiit is supposed to be Made in USA. Everything is made here or some parts are from China? Will it be admitted or is it a secret? What % 0f parts should be from US to be called made in the US I wonder. Perhaps the Chinese could set up factories in Hong Kong or come to an agreement with Mongolia.

It says right on them. Most of the main parts are made in the USA like the Power Transformers and Chassis, PCB, and some other stuff.

Very interesting. Thanks. Looks like the Commissioner has his job cut out for him. Tough job for a dedicated guy.

It's like when people insist they buy an American made car. I have a little bad news for them people. A Toyota is more American than a Ford.

If made in the US, one major suppier of OEM drivers is MISCO, posted on October 21, 2020 at 09:47:51

MISCO has been around a long time and makes drivers for a number of high end audio speaker manufacturers. If they are made here they are made by a very competent company. A good portion of their production is for custom drivers of all types and sizes.

they've done a few spec builds for me in the not too distant past

no idea if they'll still take such orders, but the results were very good

their customer service / support was exemplary too!

best regards,
