this is a little outside our normal audiophile realm but wondering if you have any thoughts. with all this time at home i am pulling together a simple outdoor projector/speaker system to watch movies with the kids. looks like most projectors have a 3.5 mm output for an external speaker. i thought i could use an inexpensive outdoor speaker to improve dialog (a bit?). maybe something like one of the jbl waterproof portable speakers? any other ideas for something relatively inexpensive, kid friendly, maybe waterproof, etc.? thanks all.

We have 4 sets of outdoor speakers, various brands. The ones we like the best are sold by B&W.

Marine-rated speakers? Mount them in a 5 gallon bucket or redwood planter and hide them in the landscaping. But the most convenient solution could be powered speakers; try Monoprice or Behringer for best value for the buck. Music stores are worth checking out; they could have ex-rental stuff for good prices. And pawn shops. Wired speakers aren't in big demand in an age of Bluetooth.

A friend has one of these that he uses by the pool..., posted on July 19, 2020 at 16:49:34

and it is AWESOME! I don't know if it is waterproof though... I know that JBL and Bose both make waterproof speakers.... You should be able to view some videos on YouTube of people that have experience with those. The good thing about all of them is that they are wireless. If you want wired, NHT makes an outdoor speaker that is very well regarded... I believe the model is O2-ARC.

I love my JBL Charge 2, speaker, sounds great, versatile, durable, and can charge a phone! for your application i would probably go for one of the larger JBL units. on lockdown we've been doing movies on the projector with the kids as well(indoors), good fun!

Put that thing in the driveway and sit in your car to watch, with a speaker hanging in the window.

Like the 1960s.
