I have a 15 in sealed sub that does music and HT duty.

Since I have some time to experiment I installed My old M&K 12 in sub in parallel for 2 channel.

The 15 is on the left wall 1/3 out from the front wall. The 12 in on the front wall to the right of center. I do not have any position flexibility.

So far, I like it. The low end seems even, speaker integration is good and the voices and instruments are more in the air.

Sub crossover controls set about the same the volume on the 12 is set very low.

and I prefer no subs, even with Role Kayaks set up on stands.
Maybe my subs are junk, maybe it's just me, I don't have the patience to fool with them, but I can't ever seem to get a subwoofer properly integrated into my system.

Sealed Box.

And keeping the volume at the lowest end of what you think is too low.

OK, that's 2 words.

but not relieved, nor stroked, nor bored. They won't do 140 on the top end floored either.
And always too much or not enough. I don't think my Maggies need them, they've got plenty of bass. Neither do the Frieds, which have plenty of punch.
But with the Kayaks, the subs just muddy things up.

Did some listening of where to put subs in the room, posted on May 30, 2020 at 09:33:26

This method isn't the best but it is a method. Put the sub in the listening chair and crawl around the room and find the good bass. Put the sub there. Thanks to Mark for finding the two spots that sound good in my room...
Front center, between the speakers and on the left wall in front of the speakers. Tried one spot with the two subs and noticed the sonic difference between them as they are different one active one passive. I'll get to both subs soon.

Maybe you have a couple good spots for the subs.

I wish you hadn't revealed your MLR's or LRS's or whatever have plenty of bass. I'm trying not to hear them calling my name....

I've used two subs for years, Velodyne SPL-1500Rs. Of course, my EdgarHorns drop like a rock below 80hz, so I have one next to each speaker with the crossover at 80hz. It works great.

They go pretty deep and the bass is really well articulated. Lots of speed and detail.
The Frieds have slam but they don't go deep.
The Kayaks put out a surprising amount bass from those bottle cap-sized "woofers" but they can't fill a room.
The thing about the Maggies though is they'll go deep to a point and then they just stop. There's a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album, has a tune with a seriously deep bass drum and the Maggies just don't play it. My headphones do, the Maggies don't. It's like there's no curve, it just cuts off.
But Steve Swallow's bass guitar is sublime.
Would consider a decent sealed sub, but I don't listen to speakers enough to justify it.

A pair of Velodyne HGS-15s in the corners do it for me. I use a Velodyne SMS-1 for acoustic room correction. They integrate well with speakers for music yet can deliver LFE for HT.

I have Velodynes, but they're the cheapest model and they're ported.
Gave one to my brother, still have one left. They're either too much or not enough.

I was about to purchase the SMS-1 for my HGS 18 when Velodyne announced the Digital Drive series. I've since been using two DD 12 Plus since their introduction.

Funny how the higher end community has such a reluctance to learn just how easy it is to deal with low frequency equalization and or processing. Instead leaning toward the vagueness of subwoofer/speaker matching or using speaker level connections to match the amplifier output.

I have old gear without bass management or separate outputs for a sub, and speaker-level is the only way I can do it.

A useful feature of the SMS-1 is the ability to sweep the in-room response of your speakers with the subs muted. I discovered that the in-room response of my KEF Reference 1s is pretty flat to 30 Hz, then rolls off sharply. I had noticed that the bass in the jazz music I listen to is well rendered without the triggering the subs. When the HGS-15 are unmuted, the in-room response extends to 15 Hz, and I notice the difference when playing pipe organ recitals.

Yes, it's an EdgarHorn using a JBL 2441 driver.
