I have a nice older gent with a Merlin VSM that appears to have a bad woofer. He has no boxes and shipping the speaker(s) out to me (then back) for repair is too costly (ground freight as they ship both in one box 200lbs).

Anyone know a place in the Lansing MI area that the gent can call to bring the speaker to for inspection/repair? Likely the woofer needs to be replaced (I have spares), but some things in the xover should be checked to make sure the tweeter and the xover is OK. So, not rocket science, but someone who can solder properly, use a meter to test things and knows a thing or two about speakers.

you might try Paragon Sight and Sound in Ann Arbor. THey've been around for 40 years or so. If they can't do it, they might direct you to someone. You should ask for Larry Marcus...good fellow.

I'm bored at home so if he won't find help locally or at Paragon (they may be closed still) I could go there and check the speaker and inspect /measure crossover components. I'm in Detroit 1.5 hour drive away. PM me if interested.

Very generous of you, but I think that is too much to ask of you to make such a drive these days. I am hoping Paragon can help the gent out.

Not familiar with this one, just found by Googling.

There are more in the Grand Rapids area which would be closer than Detroit.

Since you found it so easily, one has to wonder why the OP couldn't have done the same.....

I've used the party linked below twice to re-cone some basic speakers and some really nice M&Ks. They did a great job. They've been doing this type of work I'm guessing for over 20+ years. I called the party and suggested he look at your post and maybe respond. Hope this helps as a possible option.
