Someone has probably already done this, but I put sandbags under the speakers. For the TV system, I've got 15-yr old B&W DM303 on fairly cheap stands (well put together but not very hvy). The stands do have a 3-pt spiked stance, but the plate supporting the speaker is just a 1/16" steel sheet welded to 2 uprights at the front and back edges. The sand bags are quart zip-locks with enough sand to be about 3/8" thick. There is also a 5-lb bag of lead shot on the spkr, but most of the improvement is due to the sandbag. Sound is definitely more transparent and less forward-it is not what I would call a small difference, at least with what I'm working with.

You are (1) isolating the speakers from the stands, so their vibrations don't carry through the stands and into the floor, and (2) somewhat damping the speaker cabinets themselves. Both should result in improved clarity.

Prior to the sandbag, one could feel obvious cabinet vibration on the top of the speaker (less on the vertical sides), and in the thin steel speaker platform and the uprights supporting it.

Mine are a discontinued model (TR60) which the twin columns are canted in a backward motion. When I first purchased them and put them together, I kept reading that people said to fill them with lead shot but I was so afraid that they would be TOO heavy for me to move them. Eventually I read someone say that sand would achieve a similar result so I filled them with sand and it made a HUGE difference in the sound of my speakers! Sometimes those little tweaks can make all the differnce in the world!

i had my Pioneer BS22s on my old 3 tube legged steel stands. they sounded better than they should of course. then i got the Pangea stands and swapped them in place of my old ones.

there was an IMMEDIATE improvement in focus and impact. they are a bargain!

i now have my Spendor S3/5s on them and couldn't be happier. my friend has his Volent Paragon monitors on these same stands and he has no plans of ever separating them.

Yeah... those look nice, but I'm happy with my current stands...., posted on May 22, 2020 at 18:05:27

I don't feel the need to make a change. IF I was going to change anything, it would be to get new speakers...
