What kind of bit do I need for this?

I thought security torx would work but upon closer inspection they're not star shaped like the bits I just got in, which obviously doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

your torx aren't a complete set of security bits

these ... may be at Amazon too!

If you have a Harbor Frieght, they'd have a bit kit with it. Or just do it by hand.

I never realized this until now, but the site has reduced the quality of the photo.

The slot actually has six sides and a post in the middle so a hex wrench won't fit.

Thank you.

You are welcome. In my experience ONLY true security bits will suffice.

Ah, I didn't notice that peg in the middle. It's a hex head security bit. Harbor Freight has cheap kits that would have it.

I didn't read the other replies, but I've had great success
with just breaking the pin off. I get a flat screwdriver to fit
in there and bent it over till it breaks, EZ-PZ.

Never even considered that.

Thanks for the suggestion.

they do indeed have cheap ones, but their 'better' ones are... umm... better, posted on May 10, 2020 at 15:47:10

Spend the bucks; these sets come in handy. The best ones from Harbor Freight (jeepers, that sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it?) are long and thin -- sometimes the security bits lie at the bottom of a deep ravine to keep the cheaper bits out. Don't ask me why I know this. ;)

all the best,

Setting up a work space at the end of our newly constructed garage and will add that to my list (bench vise, drill press and bench grinder).
