I am considering the purchase of either the Quad S-5 or Z-4 floorstanding speakers for our two-channel music system. I prefer speakers that are sonically neutral or a bit warm--and nonfatiguing. I avoid speakers that are bright in the upper midrange and treble.

There are no dealers in my area to listen to any Quad loudspeakers, so purchasing a pair will be via mailorder.

I read two online magazine reviews that indicate either model should make my ears happy. Has anybody here auditioned any of the floorstanders or bookshelf models at dealers or at home, or own them? I welcome your comments.

Thank you!

They're on sale at Music Direct. They look real nice and the price is very attractive. I'd go for the "Z" series because I prefer curved enclosures.

Quad Z-3 at Music Direct

Quad Z-4 at Music Direct

Good luck,

Definitely pipe-and-slippers sound for the S line . . ., posted on May 20, 2020 at 10:13:49

I kind of regret the purchase of my S-2's despite their rating. Unruly bass to compensate for having a 5" woof. Floorstand models may be completely different on the bottom.
