Unpacked a pair of mint condition B&W DM-4 Speakers from 1972, basically unused not broken in and mechanically and cosmetically perfect.

Paired with a Bluesound Powernode and a Verastarr Powercord I am quite happy I must say.

Not up to my former Quad 988s but musical, fatigue free and so much like other British Monitors.

Anyone else find a "treasure" like this?

Thank you-

I had old B&W DM12 speakers (circa 1981) for decades.
What I found with them though, they needed a LOT of power to sound their best.
Congrats on those B&W DM4 speakers, that is a KILLER score!

Hi Steve, thanks do much for your input.
I uploaded a photo and I did some research.
They can keep their Harbeth's and Spendor's, these are the original design!
These only need about 20 watts to sound great. if that.
They also have a Supertweeter as you can see.

When I placed the Verastarr Power cord on the amp bass is amazing as well as imaging.

Take a look they are indeed pristine.

Sorry to say it I owned Harbeth HL-5 and Compact 7 as well.
Sounded a bit drunk to me.
I really do prefer these especially for the price!

Retro all the way!!!

I bet that was an exciting buy !

They sure look sweet !

I've had the DM-12 and the DM-7 MKII. Enjoyed my time with both.

As for finding similar treasure ...

About dozen or so years ago I went into an old "Radio & TV" repair shop in my hometown ("Bob & Rays"... their real names !) that had been there since I was a kid.

I learned from a friend that going into these old shops and asking if they had anything they wanted to be rid of could turn up some interesting stuff.

Many times these shops repair stuff for folks and then they never pick it up, leaving them to sell it to get their money back.

I specifically asked if they had any turntables and was told they had one in the basement left over from the days when they occasionally sold equipment.

I said I was interested and the old fellow disappeared into the basement and came back with an AR XA turntable in a sealed box.

He said they were around one-hundred back in the day, so I could have it for fifty.

Much like yours, that was a fun day. Being the first to open the box of an almost 40-year old piece of equipment is way cool

Dean.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

Time wise I think the Spendor BC1 was older than the DM4(&DM3 - larger version). Both the DM4 and BC1 basically used the same Tweeter and super tweeter.

Wow that is some find, an AR XA sealed, great for you!
I was thinking of " investing " in a Mac or similarly made tube amp and preamp and never opening them, also getting spare tubes as well.
In twenty years it will be priceless since everything is made in China,.

I still have a pair of DM2s, which are a transmission line version of this speaker, with maybe a smaller mid-bass driver. Oh so musical and satisfying.

Nice work!

The DM2a has a larger woofer than the DM4. The DM3 has a woofer the same size as your woofer.

Never physically seen a DM4 on my travels.

After living with these now for a a few weeks I really enjoy them more and more.

Now I need to find a vintage turntable and amp.--
