Just placed an ad on CL for my Magnepan 1.7 speakers, within 20 min i get a text asking if they're still available; I say yes, person then ask if he can send a verification code to see if "I'm for real"....that didn't sound right, I told him no, then I googled it, turns out once you send them a verification code they highjack your ad/account/life...

I texted him/her back along with a pic of the google result.. and before I blocked/reported them as spam I called em' a f'n a$$hole.

I have been there Green and understand. Since Craig started the list, I have done hundreds of transactions on CL, most non audio related and have come up with a process that works very well. This is how I word my ad:

---- If you see this ad, it is still available. Please read the ad description.

Item description here. Lots of detailed photos of the item.

I am NOT interested in offers or trades, local CASH sale only.
No TEXTS or PHONE CALLS, email only.
Please email with a day and time you would like to come buy them for $. Thank you.----

If this arrives, "is it still available", I do not answer, it is a phishing scam. I use CL coded email system only and get requests all the time to email to personal address, but never indulge in their phishing expedition. They need to commit to a specific day & time before I give them the address with directions to my garage where all my transactions are done. A good camera, is positioned to provide an excellent view of the area. The is no haggling and always have change in my pocket in case they don't have the exact amount. I have had repeat buyers and ones that have bought multiple items in one visit.

I like Dill's advice below, thanks for the heads up! nt, posted on December 4, 2019 at 06:38:27

I like to have a little fun with them. You can waste their time for a few minutes by sending the wrong verification code, etc. Search for "scambaiting" on Youtube to see people who have perfected this sort of thing.

I give them the code: 666, lol. nt, posted on July 22, 2020 at 10:20:22
