The sonic benefits of SET and horn speakers are known.

But what about directly heated driver tubes?

Those made for telephony have superior linearity, lifetime and build quality but do they have sonic benefits above the best indirectly heated triodes?

I have 10s driving 304tl The only limitation is keeping the noise down from stage to stage. They sound great if you can make them quiet enough. One limitation is that most directly heated tubes have lower mu so they will be a challenge to swing 70v pp to an output tube without many stages.
