I've heard so much about Phish, and am planning to get my first CD. Does anyone have a suggestion for their favorite Phish CD?

I'm a somewhat new Phish phan - I have Hoist, Billy Breathes, Story of the Ghost, and the new one Farmhouse. My personal favorite of those is Billy Breathes. The latest is probably their most pop accessible (and it's HDCD). Soundwise, they are all above average for the rock genre. Also, try All-Music Guide on line (allmusic.com), they have pretty good reviews and background of just about everything (rock related).

An older album containing a wide variety of genres and at least two of their perenial concert-jam anthems: Tweezer and Stash. It could be their best album. See the link below.

Well i would agree that A Picture of Necture is good, and another one which I feel is better is The Story of the Ghost. In my opinion however, Phish is better represented live, and if you like long songs (which they are best know for) I would look at Slip, Stitch and Pass. If you want to spend the money, Hampton Comes Alive is excellent.

I would avoid Farmhouse (their latest release). I think that they are trying to get radio play and the album has a much more commercial feel to it.

Slip, Stich and Pass is my favorite.

pronounced "Hoonta" is my favorite and I'd bet a good number of the really hard core Phisheads would say the same. The seedee is on Electra (9 61413-2).

Junta is pretty good too, but the live album has ambience and equally good performance (if not better). 2 CD's--great value! =)

Is Phish a mind vitamin band like the Dead on a lesser skill level where the performance is enhanced by a side show, a good high, and captured audience or are they some unique musicians and song writers that an old fellow who likes good music should check out? I'm not throwing nasties, just clueless and want to hear from their supporters.
