The Flying Dutchman

...picked up some LP's today that might be worth mentioning:

Ange - Au Dela Du Delire (Philips - 1974) This band is very often called the French version of King Crimson, and that makes some sense to me. It's a very nice, though somewhat muddy produced, album with early 70's prog, some folk influences and French lyrics. I'm still wondering what the tune 'Ballade pour une Orgie' is supposed to be about... Any guesses?

Stan Ridgeway - The Big Heat (I.R.S. - 1986) Yes, Dave G., I finally did it: bought myself my first Stan Ridgeway album. I think the guy is somewhat misrepresented by his only hit - the odd 'Camouflage' - while the rest of the album offers clever, well-produced pop music. Good lyrics! A nice bonus was the Wall Of Voodoo 12" (R.'s former band) The Morricone Themes (live)' (Index 1982) that I found in the same bin. Haven't played it. Kicking my LP 12 in a higher (45-RPM) gear is such a hassle...

The Connells - Fun & Games (TVT/Demon 1989) Pleasant mix of powerpop and alternative guitarstuff, although I think that '74-75' - or whatever it was called - was their only realy great tune (not on this album though).

These are all vinyls, of course...

Bye,
Robert

Now playing: 'Floating' by Eloy (EMI 1974). It's only Teutonic prog but-I-like-it.

Excellent choice TFD! "Camouflage" and "Mexican Radio" have always been a stone around Stans neck, keeping his popularity only in the novelty song catagory when in fact, his music has an incredible amount of depth and subtlty to go along with his strange sense of humor.

Enjoy it, especially the title track, "Pick it Up" and "Pile Driver".

That 12" single is available on CD with all the early Voodoo EP's. Called "The Index Masters" it's a must for any WOV fan. Gritty and nasty LA desert punk.

Portugal is coming...., posted on June 26, 2000 at 13:22:18
Hey TFD,
6X1 !!!! It´s not usual, ahn? My guess is that the final will be Portugal X Holland.

No Golden Earring DVD news for me?

Wladimir

...you're going to get us both in trouble at this civilised board dedicated to music only. But thanks for the preview. I think it's going to be France - Holland. And I'm not shure about the outcome. It was a nice game to watch though. Holland is going nuts (and getting more orange all the time).

No news about the Golden Earring DVD. I'll keep my eyes open for you, also because I purchased a player myself some weeks ago (enjoyed The Who, The Bee Gees, Dr. Strangelove, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Excorsist, among others, immensly).

All the best & I still have your e-mail address,

Robert

Depth, yep that's the word. I can imagine myself listening to this LP over and over, and getting more out of the music every time. I red somewhere that he used to make soundtracks for B-movies, and that sounds. His music is full of cute little details that add to the whole story.
Thanks,
Robert
