 In September 1991, Indian Summer was in full effect. My friend and college neighbor, April, liked Simply Red's new song, "Something Got Me Started." April thought it was a more mature effort. Or at least, it made her feel more mature. She was like most other single people in that, while optimistic about the school year (we were both juniors), her rational side braced for the reality that maybe she'd only get lucky twice, during the year. April then turned to her roommate, Vanessa, and said that she would take her beat-up old Mazda 323, and drive us to Tahoe. Remember; in those days, there was no internet. So we had to find travel brochures and paper maps. We had to make phone calls, some long-distance. While Simply Red's "Something Got Me Started" did make us feel more adult, that only left us ill-prepared for the upcoming grunge & rap revolution. -Lummy The Loch Monster
