A Sailors Life by Fairport Convention. The Unhalfbricking album, 1969

This one's like an 11 minute acid trip for me - without the acid. I picked the best sounding youtube version I could find but vinyl or a lossless transfer sounds better to me.

For some reason I always get a smile when seeing Richard Thompson in his teens.Geeky dude back row right corner.

We saw him a couple of years back at the Musical Instrument Museum - he looked really good for his age. Enjoyable performance in the ~300 seat venue. I was about 60 and my wife is a couple of years younger. I think we were the youngest people in the audience.

Great artist and IMO his records are still quite worthy after all these years.

It's weird that RT wasn't among the "guitar gods" when I was in school back in the early 80's. Sailor's Life and FC would have fit in great. Didn't find RT until my later 20's.

Saw him about 15-20 yeaars ago with his bassist. Great show!!

I have been a fan of FC for a long time. I still love Sandy Dennys voice. Too bad she died so young.

Like most 60s and 70s music I came to later in life. I think Daring Adventures was my first RT LP but I didn't keep it. I have Shoot Out the Lights from 82, Rumor & Sigh from 91 and 7 LPs of his from 99-2018 all of which are really good records. I think it was 2018 when we saw him live and we both thought it was a good show.

I really like the kind of psychedelic folk from that era and Sandy Denny's vocals played a big part in my attraction to Fairport Convention. Her death was a big loss. Another tragic death from this niche of music was Nick Drake and I didn't discover him until much later.

That was a great loss. Another band I discovered later, or maybe my appreciation of music evolves, is Steeleye Span. Similar, but IMO a bit more traditional folk than FC, but still a great listen. And Maddy Prior sings well.
