Another audiophile mentioned that, in 1986, the General Electric 6550A was a favorite, in bass guitar amps. Heck, Conrad-Johnson's tube amps came supplied with these. We took them for granted, and when GE stopped making them, pretty soon, they started to sell for $100 each -- which used to be the price for old-stock Tung-Sol 6550s. He then turned to Robert Palmer's surprise cover of Cherrelle's "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On," which features Chic's rhythm section of drummer Tony Thompson and bassist Bernard Edwards. He wondered if Edwards' bass amp(s) used the GE 6550A. Radio stations insist on only playing Palmer's "Addicted To Love." Don't forget his "Hyperactive" and "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On," which you may find to be better than "Addicted To Love." -Lummy The Loch Monster |
