 We like to call out when a song is released during the wrong time of year. But in 1991, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's "Summertime" was released correctly, in time for summer. Sampling Kool & The Gang, "Summertime" brought Philly to the rest of the country, including Hawaii. Alas, because "Summertime" is now 30 (!) years-old, it is lumped in with "old school." At the 1992 Grammy Awards, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's "Summertime" won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. And yes, at the time, Will Smith was starring in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. -Lummy The Loch Monster
