In high school, our grade had around 650 students. So my friend Marge and I never had any classes together. But she and I both had relatives in Hawaii. I spent most of the summer there, at least to cover summer school. In 1986, I took an economics class at Punahou. Marge came over for a few weeks, but not for summer school. We met at a place called Washington Saimin, which was, even back then, kind of old school. I think it was on South King, near Pensacola. Anyway, a car went by, blaring The Outfield's "All The Love." To which Marge, who was showing me her temporary tattoos, remarked, "I love that song, even more than 'Your Love'." Again, while radio stations keep playing "Your Love" (nothing wrong with that), the smart audiophile plays "All The Love" instead. Marge recently reached out to me. She still likes The Outfield's "All The Love," and has a hard time fathoming that it is now 35 years-old. She still uses temporary tattoos, but now they are henna. The summer after our junior year (1988), Marge arranged to live with her Honolulu relatives. She took the awesome Oceanography class at Punahou. -Lummy The Loch Monster |
