Yet another audiophile wrote in to complain. He said that everyone's forgotten about Barry Manilow's version of "I Write The Songs," which is now 45 years-old. But more importantly, he says, the original was a collaboration between Bruce Johnston (who was in and out of The Beach Boys) and Captain & Tennille. According to Johnston, the "I" in "I Write The Songs" is not the singer. Rather, the "I" is God. IDK, in the mid-70s, Manilow's version was among the first non-children's songs I was able to hear. Once the 80s appeared, Bay Area radio stations didn't play "I Write The Songs" that often. Every once in a while, my coworkers hear it on 98.1 The Breeze. -Lummy The Loch Monster |
